On the 5th of February 2015, the RPA joined
thousands of other businesses in theUK by
supporting Time toChange #TimeToTalkDay.
The campaign encouraged the nation to take
fiveminutes to have a conversation aboutmental

associated prejudices.

With theNewYear underway, a group of
YorkshireCarnegieAcademy players recently
spent the day at Hollins Hall Marriott Hotel &
Country Club, to experience several areas of
employment within the hotel industry.
Organised as part of the RPA’s Player
Development Programme (PDP), the 12 players
were split into three groups andwere rotated
through different activities such as a culinary
masterclass delivered by the hotels head chef
and a golf tuition sessionwith theHollins Hall
Director of Golf, Stuart Carnie.
Academywinger Dan Tai said: “I found
thewhole experience extremely enjoyable and
it was fantastic to experiencewhat it’s like
working in a hotel and inparticular the catering
kitchen.”

Members of the Exeter Chiefs turnedout in
force recently for a business forum hosted by the
RPA at Sapphire Spaces in Topsham. Organised
as part of the Player Development Programme
(PDP), players from the Senior andAcademy
squadsmet representatives from local industry
sectors including Sapphire Spaces, RheadGroup
andBluesoup.
Exeter Chiefs’ RPA Representative, Haydn
Thomaswho attended the night said: “The
high level of attendance shows that players
understand the need to look at their options
post-rugby.”
Josh Frape, Player DevelopmentManager
for Exeter Chiefs underlined how beneficial
these events are for all parties: “Having the
opportunity tomeet businesses, build contacts
andgain an insight into their industry furthers
player’s knowledge for careers after rugby.”
BathRugby try their
handat plumbingand
stonemasonry
A group of Bath Rugby players recently spent the
day at City of BathCollege learning the basics of
plumbing and stonemasonry.
With the support of their RPA Player
DevelopmentManager, Budge Pountney, the
seven playerswere rotated through the various
aspects of the trades by the college’s specialist
teachers.
They learnt about water pipes, joint work,
valves, soldering andwere evengiven the
opportunity to carve house names and numbers
into stone.
Bath prop TomDunn said: “I’m looking to
buy a house so I want to have the skills to do
the little jobsmyself rather than having to spend
money on calling someone out.”

Sports
Bath Rugby centre, BenWilliams, recently
took time out from his busy rugby schedule to
experience lifeworking at London based sports
events agency, Threshold Sports.
The 25-year-oldwho is currently out injured
with a shoulder issue, got in touchwith his RPA
Player DevelopmentManager, Budge Pountney,
toorganise the three daywork experiencewith
the intention of planning for life after rugby.
Working closelywith the Threshold Sports
staff, Ben spent his time helping plan and
research the upcoming events inwhich the
agency are currently putting together.
“I found it really compellingwitnessing how
muchwork actually goes into event planning,
with the logistics andmarketing taking up a
huge amount of time.”
Charlie Vaughan-Griffith, Head of Business
Development at Threshold Sports, was
thoroughly impressed by Ben’s determination to
plan for life after rugby.
“For a player who has come straight off the
rugby pitch, with limited business experience, he
was an incredibly useful guy to have around the
office.”
Sam joins
TheRPAteam
The RPAwelcomed its newestmember of the
team in January, with Sam Baring joining as
the SalesManager. Sam is an experienced Sales
Manager, specialising in the sports hospitality
and sports ticketing industries, and has been
brought in at a crucial time for the RPA Events
programme.
Sam’smain prioritywill be to focus on
generating leads and increasing our direct
sales to all of our events, including The RPA
Players’ Awards 2015 and the 2015 TAGHeuer
International Rugby Heroes Dinner.
