KeyAchievements in 2015/16
z
Christmas Lightswere again installed 12 lamp columns in Foregate
Street, TheCross and The Foregate aswell as the 8 trees inBroad
Street. We continued our successful scheme tooffer tobulk purchase
internal lights for thewindow frontages of businesses and consequently
supported 82businesses.
z
After a limited response frombusinesseswanting hangingbaskets, we
installed andmaintained23 3-tier floral planters in 19 streetswithin the
BID area. Suchwas the positive response, the numberswere agreed tobe
doubled in 2016/17.
z
We chaired theStrategicMarkets, Festivals andEvents Forumwhichmeets
monthlywith partners.
z
Worcester CityCouncil launched a consultation exercise on the possibility
of reducing the times that tradewaste is left out on the streetswhichwe
helped topublicise toBIDbusinesses. We alsomet with all of the trade
waste suppliers to consider the possibility of using 1 rather than 8 for all BID
businesses, thus reducing their overheads. Thiswork is ongoing.
z
We piloted the use of gull proof sacks for businesseswho hadproblemswith
their tradewaste being strewn across the street. The project was a success
and all businesseswill be offered free sacks to combat this problem. We
alsopiloted the use of a humaneBird FreeGel as ameans of reducing
gull numbers – unfortunately this low costmethodof deterrent was not
successful andwill not be pursued.
z
Wewere involved in the consultation of newpublic art in theCornmarket
which is earmarked for completion in 2016 andwill feature 4 statues of
famous peoplewith strong links toWorcester.
The floral plantersmade
such a big impact on
livening up the city centre.
The colours and size of
themwere very impressive.
